Minister of Culture Dr. Ghassan Salamé received MP Dr. Bilal Abdullah at his office at the National Library-Sanayeh, accompanied by the mayor of Shehim, Engineer Tarek Shaaban, and in the presence of architect Jad Tabet.
MP Abdullah explained after the meeting: "During the meeting with Minister Salameh, we could not help but sense his understanding of the reality in the region and Lebanon, based on his position, experience, expertise, and political intuition."
He added: "We heard from His Excellency a precise analysis of Lebanon's situation amid a critical transitional phase, where full awareness is required to preserve internal unity, protect Lebanon's interests, maintain its neutrality, and rescue it from the throes of external conflicts, for which Lebanon has unfortunately paid a heavy price."
MP Abdullah continued: “In fact, our main discussion with the Minister, in the presence of the Mayor of Shehim, Municipal Council Member and Advisor Jad Tabet, was about the antiquities of the town of Shehim and the Roman Palace of Shehim, especially since Minister Salamé has a complete file on these antiquities. It was a detailed discussion within the framework of the possibility of placing Shehim Palace on the World Heritage List, and working, even temporarily, to protect it to inform local and foreign public opinion of the importance of this site and include it on the tourist map, noting that the Shehim Municipality has developed a comprehensive plan and we are by their side, and we hope that upon its completion we will launch this project under the auspices of the Minister of Culture.”
